Ready to Get Back at it!

It has been many months since we have updated you all and much has happened in that time.

So, I have worked for the Legislative Counsel Bureau since 1998. I started in hardware and then switched to programming. I had decided that it was time to retire and go and enjoy life with my husband traveling the world. That is when we started our boat shopping seriously. When we found and bought LeaLou I had already pretty much decided to not retire immediately and work one more Legislative session. It just made sense financially, also COVID-19 had taken control of the world, and everything was shut down. There literally was nowhere to go.

We sailed LeaLou out of Fort Lauderdale and headed up the coast. We were going to stay in St. Augustine but couldn’t find a yard to pull out in. I spent lots of time looking for a yard that we could get to and that could pull us out and we landed on St. Marys Boat Services in Georgia.

We pulled out of the water at the yard in Georgia and started work on modernizing her. While I worked at my job, Doug finished tearing out everything we wanted to replace, things like the refrigerator which no longer really kept things cool. He also finished sorting through all of the parts that had been left on the boat that for the most part were not any good and should have been thrown out long ago.

Since the boat yard is not really setup to power a 230-volt European boat and we couldn’t find somewhere inexpensive to live for 6 months or so, we decided to come back to Nevada. Fortunately, my son Cole had a spare bedroom that he allowed us to take over. I worked and Doug spent time remodeling Cole’s house and going to the gym.

We have used the time here productively. We have bought new solar, new batteries, new fridge, new freezer, parts for the engine, parts for the hot water heater, parts for the bow thruster, propane parts, a new BBQ and many, many more items. Oh, and we bought a van to put it all in. It is just a used panel van that we can secure all the new parts in, drive back to Georgia and then when we go back in the water, we will sell it.

I am going to keep working for awhile before officially retiring but I am taking the next month off for sure to help get the boat back in the water. It was a happy but strange feeling to realize after 23 years that I had worked my last regular legislative session.
