LeaLou is a 53 foot Amel Super Maramu built in France in 1995 and has traveled extensively around the world already. We plan on taking her on more adventures all over the world.
What LeaLou means.
So we originally were going to name her “Haven” and the definition of haven is “a place of safety or refuge”. That is what she still means to us. LeaLou is our refuge from the craziness that the world is today. Our safe place. But, I know there is always a “but”! LOL. When we really started to spend time on her, the name just didn’t seem to fit. So, after much debate and many, many “I don’t know” we finally landed on LeaLou. We were watching one of our favorite silly movies, The Fifth Element, and it just came to us. So LeaLou it was. It is spelled a bit differently than the movie, but we liked the way we spelled it.
What makes this sailboat so exceptional?
LeaLou is a sailing ketch and has enough room for up to 6 people to sleep comfortably. We have tons of storage, solar, wind generator, water maker, generator, fridge and freezer, dive compressor and so much more. She even has a washing machine. This will allow us to live off the grid for many months if we choose to.
LeaLou has a well-protected center cockpit with both the in-mast mainsail and headsail controlled with push-button electric furlers. The power windlass can be operated from the cockpit, as can the integral anchor washdown system installed in the bow roller. There is also a retractable bow thruster to help out when docking.
Inside LeaLou , there are four full-height watertight bulkheads (two are fitted with watertight interior doors) to further add to the safety features of this boat.
