My husband (Doug) and I (Kelly) have been married for over 30 years. I know, an eternity to most people. I have almost always had a career in IT and he has always been in some form of construction after spending 10 years in the Nevada Army National Guard as a flight engineer on the CH-47 helicopter. Just a note of pride for our family, all four of us spent time in the military. We all were in the Army Guard; I was an office weanie and both of our boys were MP’s who did a significant tour of duty in the Middle East.

We love to travel and scuba dive. Both of our sons are also divers. Initially, we were thinking of just moving to a different country after retiring. Cozumel, Mexico was our first choice. But as we got to thinking about it our ideas evolved. We decided to buy a sailboat and take our home with us to travel the world.

There are just too many places we want to see and dive and let’s face it, we are not exactly the most sociable people!

A sailboat seemed the most versatile way to get around. Airplanes are so uncomfortable, and it is so expensive to fly these days anyway. Add the cost of a hotel and the diving and we would only be able to take a couple of trips a year. Hence, a sailboat. Be on the ocean we love, have our house with us, room for the boys to visit, and have all of our dive gear right there, including a compressor. Perfect solution.

Don’t forget the solitude.
