It’s been a long month

Recap – So when we got to the boat the end of October, we spent a couple of days going through it and buying some groceries to get on the way up the coast to St. Augustine.

The boat of course as all boats do needs work but we figured we would take care of the major issues in the marina after we arrived. We headed out early the morning of October 30th. We managed all of the bridge openings and were headed out to open sea when right after the last bridge the engine overheated.

We figured out that the sea strainer was plugged from gunk from the river the boat was docked at and that the impeller that the previous owner said he changed had not been changed. We managed to make it over to a dock that we found out pretty quickly was a federal dock that we were not allowed at. But it all worked out fine, an officer came and sat with us until TowBoat US showed up and towed us to a dock just the other side of the last bridge. We got it all working and headed out again. So funny, had to be towed the very first time we took the boat out!

We actually had a pretty good sail up as far as Palm Beach and then we pulled in for the night or so we thought. The wind the next day was going to be on our nose so we thought we would spend the night and the next day and get some rest and boat work done. Then ETA hit and though I am not sure that storm was the reason for the high winds we got stuck in Palm Beach for two weeks. We sent Logan home since there was not much happening and I went to work.

Doug and I finally made it out of Palm Beach and overnighted up the Cape Canaveral. What a neat area. The marina was nice and the people were very nice (not like Palm Beach, LOL). We had the extra benefit or watching a space launch, it was not the SpaceX launch but it was super cool. Of course I was an idiot and did not press record on my phone so that I could post the launch.

We left Cape Canaveral the next morning and did another 22-hour sail and finally got to St. Augustine. We have been here ever since.

We decided that since I work too much and there is a lot to do on the boat (nothing really major thank goodness) that we would pull the boat out of the water. We could not find a place in St. Augustine with room for us and I could not find a short term place to stay that was even somewhat reasonable we decided to look elsewhere.

We found a boatyard in St. Mary’s Georgia and have made arrangements to haul out on November 30th. I have found a couple of apartments and hopefully will get moved off the boat soon. If not, we can live on the boat while we work on it (I really don’t want to).

Stay tuned for the next developments!
